A wonderful and unique facility in Portland/East Hampton Connecticut has recently seen the completion of a 14 ton geothermal system to provide comfort control for year round occupancy. King Energy LLC would like to thank the Roncalli Institute and particularly Edward Dougherty for their confidence in both geothermal and us.
The facility has two primary spaces. The Marina Club will host catered gatherings of up to 150 people and is serviced by two five ton water to water geothermal heat pumps.
The other primary space is called the Captain’s Lounge, and it and some support areas are serviced by a four ton water to air unit. All units are backed up by a Rinai instant fired propane boiler, but calculations indicate it will not be required under design conditions. One tricky encumberance on the site was the presence of two high capacity water wells, and the reserved area for two more. These wells require a 200′ setback, and that left us with only space for three wells. Calculations resulted in the need for each to be 650′ deep, which is more than usual, and the pressure drop demands were met by upping the pipe diameter to 1 1/2″. This is all a little different from what we usually do, but sometimes you have to be creative. The point is that we make it happen.
St. Clements has demonstrated a strong commitment to energy efficiency. I thank them and encourage anyone shopping for an event venue to strongly consider St Clements Castle as their choice. I know from first hand experience they put on the best event anywhere. This location is flat out stunning. For more info, go to:
